Chapter One "Emerald, can you please help your father with Lunch?" Mum called from downstairs, "Emerald? Honey can you hear me?" I wasn't usually this ignorant; its just I found this really cool shell down at my secret cove on the beach the other day. I don't know what it was about this shell, since after all, it was a
shell, come on. Shells aren't exciting, are they? I think I am going insane... I just feel so attracted to it in some way... Well, I suppose I had better get downstairs, I think Mum is still calling... I popped the shell back onto the window ledge and trotted down the stairs into the living room. Dad was there, trying to sew his sunhat back together. He had recently broke it somehow - I mean, how could you rip the rounded-cap-bit off? Oh well, I suppose I had better help him - otherwise I knew I wouldn't be able to go to the beach. I knelt down beside him and watched him attempt to sew it back on.
"Dad, you don't know how to sew, do you?" I asked him.
"Yes I do, see," he showed me the cap and it fell apart again. Hmph... This is going to take a lot of TLC...
"Give it here," I told him, and he passed it over to my lap. Well, I suppose I'd better begin to fix the mess...
Time had passed, and I FINALLY finished the cap! Gosh, it was a hard task...
"Emerald??!" Mum called from outside.
"Yep?" I responded.
"Can you come here please?" She asked
"Sure," I said calmly. I ran outside quickly, finding my Mum packing the Car Boot.
"Did you eat the chocolate?" Mum asked, studying me to see if I would give in (Thats if I did eat the chocolate, which I didn't)
"Uh.. No? Ask Dad, he's a chocoholic," I replied.
"Um, okay. We are going in a few minutes, so make sure you got everything," she paced inside and started shouting Dads name.
"Well..." I said out loud "Suppose I better check my room for stuff to bring.."
I started towards the house when I just decided to turn around and look at the sea. You see, we live on top of a big hill, and we have an amazing sea view... I don't know why, but I have always been attracted to the sea, like I should always be in the sea, not on land... Well, anyways, Mum will probably shout at me if I don't get a move on soon.
I turned our ancient door-handle and went up the stairs quickly to my room. I moved my eyes around the room, scanning it, like a science-lab-experiment to see if there was anything worth taking.
I moved closer to the draw I put my shell I found in, I don't know why I was moving closer, but I felt like a magnet being drawn to another magnet.
I opened the draw slowly, and there it was. Perfect as it was, just lying there. I think I should take it with me. Should I? I was so confuffled (confuffled is on of my words - means confused) at this moment in time... I had decided. I pushed my hands in the draw and picked the delicate shell up. Wow, I had forgotten how beautiful it was... I slowly put my ear to it, seeing if I could hear any noise, but there was nothing.
"Emerald!" Mum shouted. She sounded very annoyed with me now, so I ran quickly downstairs outside.
"Here!" I was panting as I replied, I ran as fast as the wind to get to her. I wasn't sure if she heard me because she had her back turned to me and was talking to Dad.
"Lets go," said Dad. We climbed into the car and drove down along the bumpy road which made me bob up and down in my seat.
"Hold on, Em," my parents told me sternly. I was watching out of the window when I noticed we were on the grass, not the road - There was a shear drop down off the cliff, no fence or anything.
"Jake, the brakes aren't working!" cried my mother. She began to sob loudly, as if she knew our fate.
Suddenly, there was a deafening screech, and everything went black.
Chapter 2 Gulls squark in the background.
My eyes flickered open quickly, and I could see only blurry images of the place surrounding me. Slowly, I moved my arm and it slipped on something cold and wet. I knew where I was. I was at the rockpools, down at my secret cove.
"It is a nice view, here. I have always admired this place," a silvery voice remarked. I swear I knew that voice... The perfectness in every word, every letter...
I coughed, and remembered where I was. My hair was wet, somehow. I started to regain my memory - then I remembered everything. Mum... Dad... Where were they? I needed to find my parents desperately. I pulled my sleeves up which were soaking when my hands touched them. My hands were slightly sandy, also. My knees were very painful once I had gotten up onto my knees. I was knelt up on the rockpool, staring out into the ocean.
"The ocean is full of wonderful things, magical things, mysterious things..." It was the silver voiced person again, they were singing with amazing passion, I'd heard it. I got up onto my soggy trainers and looked around the cove.
"Hello?" I cried. The only reply I had got was my echo. I stared up, I could see the road of which we had traveled along when...
My eyes started to sting, and I could feel the trickle of tears run down my face. I was no fool, I had known what had happened - We'd had a car crash, or something along the lines of that.
"Hello, Emerald," the voice said again. I felt my hairs stand up on the back of my wet neck. I swiveled around, I still could not see anybody, or anything.
"Wh-who, wh-where are you?" I stuttered, feeling slightly scared.
